Updates:
- July 10, 2008:
Dear Theories readers:
This is Vertigo. I'd like to apologize for the extreme lack of updates and explain our absence for the last three years. And what a crazy three years it's been. After graduating from college, before starting on our PhD programs in Quantum Astrophysics and Cognitive Computing Systems, Perp and I decided to take the trip we had been talking about for years, a summer-long backpacking trek through South East Asia, visiting the monasteries of Mahayana Buddhism, part of the ongoing spiritual quest. We were also interested in the artifacts of the proto-Polynesian peoples in the Malay region, because of the recent findings of symbols which may support an exo-genesis theory (extraterrestrial influence on early humans).
We set out in summer 2005, and a while, our trek went well. We traveled the land, seeing many of the beautiful sights and peoples, living off the land, and learning from the Kursibiachi monks. We even found a few artifacts, which we shipped back home for further study. Then, while hiking in the Himalayas along the Bhutan-Nepal border, we got lost. The monsoon season was especially heavy that year, and the rain made the trails and passes hard to navigate. Alpha broke his leg from a rock slide, and we were stuck. That was our darkest hour.
After spotting some goat herders, we made our way to a nearby mountain village, where the villagers cared for Alpha, healing him. One of the village elders spoke English, and through him we began to learn their language and their ways. By the time Alpha had recovered enough to allow for our departure, the winter had closed off the only way out of the valley. We stayed on, and the villagers were more than hospitable, and we learned to live in this community, a peaceful place separate from the modern world, yet wise beyond belief. Alpha, it seems, learned and loved a little too much. He fell in love with a local girl, and when spring came, it was evident that she was pregnant with his child. Rather than abandon his child and return to civilization, Alpha wanted to stay on. We talked for many days, about life, our paths, and the future. It was decided that I would return alone, and he would follow, after the child's birth.
Last I heard from him, the mother had died on the journey, and he was trying to take his son, to return to the States, but the immigration status was an issue. Hopefully he'll be with us soon.
Among the things we talked about was a desire to restart our beloved Theories. We're planning a complete renovation to the site, with updated theories, and new additions by the many contributors who have provided articles over the last threeyears. We've learned so much over the last three years, and we're ready to share it with you, our loyal readers. Happy new year, and welcome to the new Theories of the Universe!
